As
a graduate of Columbia and Harvard Law School, Senator Obama knows a thing
or two about the importance of a quality education. Here he shares his thoughts
with the folks at the Center for American Progress about the current state
and future of the American education system. His message? “We face
a future where the ideal of American meritocracy could turn into an American
myth.
As countries who are out-educating us today out-compete our
workers tomorrow.” Though we do not face them in interscholastic,
intercontinental cricket matches or football games, students in places like
Boise and Boston, in today’s world, compete with students in locales
like Beijing and Bangalore. Senator Obama is simply telling us to put our
game faces on and step it up.
