The
Race is On
You’re
damn right the race is on! And check this: even conservative opinion columnist
George Will is pulling for Obama. Here, Mr. Will is offering four solid reasons
(one which boils down to: “Don’t be such a tease, Barack!”)
as to why Senator Obama should not only run in 2008, but win the whole ballgame.

If any of you young political junkies out there are wondering how
potential presidential candidate Barack Obama might do in the oh-so-important
Iowa caucuses (the first electoral hurdle for every presidential candidate),
here’s a reliable prediction: EXTREMELY WELL. That’s right. Though
he was born in Hawaii and lived for a few years in Indonesia, he’s
a Midwesterner at heart. His mother was born in Kansas and he has since settled
in Chicago. So when Iowans go to see him speak, they may see him as very
different from presidential candidates they have observed in the past (as
an African-American), but they will hear a Midwesterner. Someone
who sounds like them and lives as they do. And that is a recipe for winning
him some votes. Maybe.

If you ever watch anything by or about Barack Obama, watch
this speech.
He takes the time to write his own speeches (an increasing rarity among high-profile
politicians), so you can take the time to listen. This speech lit the rocket
underneath his semi-famous heinie back in 2004 and began his ascent into
the political stratosphere. His personal story interwoven with a narrative
about reclaiming the promise of the American dream.
